Ms. Wright

Humanities Teacher

Hello! My name is Cassidy Wright. I am excited to be teaching English Language Arts for 10th and 11th grade this year. A little bit about me, I was born and raised in central Indiana where I lived until my last semester of college. My student teaching program gave me the opportunity to move to Houston, Texas where I then lived and taught 9th grade English for four years. Last year, my husband and I moved to Denver where we have been exploring our new home state as much as possible. When I’m not at school, I enjoy playing video games on my Nintendo Switch, cooking fun recipes, and traveling with my husband.

Ms. Dusenbery

CTE Teacher

I am super excited to be here again this year! This is my 10th year teaching, all of which have been here in Mapleton. I was able to travel the district as a CareerX teacher (which was totally awesome) and was the K-8 Visual Arts teacher at Monterey Community School for the start of my teaching experience. Before teaching, I enjoyed a fruitful career in Interior and Industrial Design and Product Manufacturing. I love to learn and consider myself a lifetime learner, having attended nearly every college around. I did my undergraduate coursework at Metropolitan State University earning a B.F.A in Furniture Design and a B.S in Industrial Design/Product Manufacturing. The University of Colorado Denver is where I fell in love with teaching and earned a M.A ED/Human Development. My husband, daughter and I love to camp, hike, and travel, sometimes bringing our fur babies Bodee and Apollo. I try to create something every day and work in a variety of mediums from paints to sculpture. I have to say a favorite thing of mine is to create large-scale public chalk art and enjoy participating in local artist events. Art and creating have opened many doors and created many lifelong friendships, and is something that I am extremely passionate about sharing! I can't wait to share everything I know and have learned in my creative journey, and am excited to learn from you as we embark on this new adventure.

Mr. Avila

Science Teacher

Hello! I teach Earth Science, Biology, and Physics at York International, and I'm thrilled to be in my third year here. Originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, I moved to the United States at the age of 12, where I learned English. My experience has instilled in me a deep appreciation for language and its power to connect people.

I am passionate about honoring not only my own culture but also the diverse backgrounds of all my students. I am fluent in both Spanish and English, and I believe that language is a key element in creating meaningful connections with students. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I serve as the coach for the La Raza Club, an after-school program dedicated to enriching students' understanding of their culture and embracing Mexican/Chicano traditions. I truly enjoy fostering a sense of pride and appreciation for cultural diversity within our school community.

Mr. Hirsch

English Teacher

Mr. Hirsch has been in teaching in Mapleton for over a decade. After spending the early part of his teaching career at Academy High School and as a CareerX teacher, Mr. Hirsch joined the York International staff during the pandemic and, like that virus, has continued to stick around. He brings his love of Dad Jokes, debate, writing, and literature to his classroom. He is also the coach of the Mapleton Speech and Debate team. When not at York, Mr Hirsch is a happily smitten girl daddy, likes to read, cook, play video games and is an award winning (best Daddy) singer-songwriter.

Mrs. Patterson

English Language Arts Teacher

Hello; my name is Stephanie Patterson or Mrs. Patterson to students I have always had a love for all things English Language Arts and a passion for teaching exceptional students. This is my 9th year of teaching. I spent 8 years in Boulder Valley School District as a Special Education Day Treatment Teacher and taught K-12 English Language Arts, Middle School ELA, Elementary ELA, Art, High School Life Skills, all with an emphasis in social/emotional skills. While in Boulder, I coached many teachers and staff on teaching social/emotional skills. Last year I was an Itinerant Special Education Inclusion Teacher who taught teachers how to create inclusive classrooms and break down barriers of inclusion. My own children have been students in Mapleton and I knew I wanted to be a part of the team and York International welcomed me with open arms!

I have been to many post-secondary schools, but have degrees or certificates from Metropolitan State University, CU Boulder, and University of Northern Colorado. I was on the Colorado Council for Exceptional Children for 6 years and developed a strong sense of student and family rights in education.

While not doing everything education I am a collector of hobbies, more specifically crafts. I have a deep love for crocheting, jewelry making, polymer clay art, and drawing. I read whenever I can and recently discovered audio books which allows me to "read" books and have my hands free to craft. I have been with to my husband for 21 years and we have three children ages 22, 17, and 15. I have many fur babies, some fin-babies, and one very needy feather baby, who I all deeply love.

I am a huge believer in communication with students and their people, whether they are parents, grandparents, extended family, or guardians. Please feel welcome to contact me at any time!
